Not Regina by Christmas Carol Kauffman

From the back of the book:
The 1500s were stirring times in Europe. Luther nailed his ninety-five theses to a church door in Germany, exploding a powder keg of unrest that seethed for decades. Against this background, Regina Strahm found herself caught between two religious factions in Switzerland. Her parents repeatedly warned her against the Anabaptist heresy, but why then did Zwingli's official religion fail to satisfy? And why were the Anabaptists willing to die for their faith? Regina discovered why, and found a joy she had never before known.

Summary: Regina is a 17 year old Swiss girl lives in turbulent times. As more neighbours and friends turn Anabaptist and are thus imprisoned or go into exile, Regina wonders whether the Bible would provide her with the answers to the questions and the emptiness of her heart. Lack of finances prevent her family buying a Bible and the local pastor teaches strongly against the new ideas. When Regina is offered work as a servant for the pastor's family she hopes to find the answers to her questions. However, she goes more and more restless as she finds no answers there but instead meets those considered to be the enemy but who possess a peace that Regina longs for. Through some of her family members, Regina is able to learn more about the Bible and the way of salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Facing persecution and torture, Regina remains firm but an unexpected twist leads to her finding a way of escape.

Other: This book is historical fiction. While some of the characters are actual historical people, Regina and her family and friends are fictional. This book does include a romance.
