How to be Saved

Full text of gospel tract:

Many people are asking today how they can be saved. That is a very important question, and I am writing this little message to tell you the answer. Even if you don't know much about the Bible, it is easy to understand how to be saved.
Imagine a swimmer at the seashore who has gone far out into the deep water and is drowning. He cries to the lifeguard to save him. The lifeguard rushes to where he is, picks him up in his helpless condition and takes him ashore. The lifeguard has saved him from drowning.
Or, imagine a man whose home is burning and he is fast being overcome by smoke. He sees a fireman coming toward him and cries to the fireman to save him. The fireman picks him up in his helpless condition and takes him out of the building. The fireman has saved him from perishing in the fire.
Now, just as the beach has a lifeguard who is able to save a man from drowning, and just as the city has firemen who are able to save a man from perishing in a burning building, so God has a Saviour (Luke 2:11) who is able to save every sinner who will trust that Saviour to save him. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). He has a Saviour for you!
The Lord Jesus Christ became the Saviour of sinners by coming down from heaven (1 John 4:14) and dying on the cross for their sins. "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Upon that cross He finished the work of redemption (John 19:1-30) to the glory of God. God raised Him from the dead (Acts 4:10) and He is now at God's right hand in heaven (Hebrews 1:3), a living Saviour. The risen and ascended Saviour still has the marks of Calvary in His body, the eternal reminder that He loved you and died upon the cross for your sins.
The way for you to be saved from the punishment which you deserve because of your sins—"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23)—is to trust the Lord Jesus as your Saviour (John 14:6). To trust Him is to acknowledge your need of salvation, by repenting of your sins to God, and believing in your heart that the Lord Jesus Christ fully paid the price of your redemption by bearing your sins in His own body on the tree (1 Peter 2:24). Confess your sins to the Lord Jesus Christ and He will hear you (Romans 10:13).
Just as the drowning man trusted his full weight to the lifeguard and the man in the burning building trusted his full weight to the fireman, so the Lord Jesus will save you the moment you trust your full weight of sin to Him. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth My Word and believeth on Him that sent Me hath everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment; but is passed from death unto life" (John 5:24).
Have I made it clear that no works of yours, or anything else that you can do, can possibly put one of your countless sins away? The only thing that you can do—(and the only thing that God will accept)—to get saved, is to ask the Lord Jesus Christ, the living Saviour in heaven, to save you. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8,9). Then believe God's Word that since you have trusted the Saviour, you are saved. "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Romans 10:9).
He will not only save you right now when you ask Him to do so, but He will keep you (Jude 24,25) through life's journey and then take you home to heaven to be forever with Himself (John 14:1-3).
